Relationships between Nordic people and light have always been special. Finish people live with almost no sunlight during the long winters and than nature gives them 24 hours of it in the summers. I spent one month (August 2017) in the region of Jyväskylä, Finland, trying to convey this intense contrast in light conditions and it’s impact on everyday people’s life. I’m focusing on the power of light to re-shape and transform, both physically and psychologically. Light was my main subject and my creative tool at the same time. I used only natural daylight to еxpress this almost magical feeling created by the Indistinguishable line between day and night. Daylight is inexhaustible source of miracles for the people in Finland, who has almost loving relationship with it.

Marica Kolcheva was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, and lives and works in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her work is focused on revealing the extraordinarily that is hidden in seemingly mundane everyday gestures or investigating in hard to be visualized subjects. Working on the subtle line between memories, fiction, space, forms and time she is mostly interested to create a narrative out of unexpected.
